“Him we proclaim, warning everyone
and teaching everyone with all wisdom,
that we may present everyone mature in Christ.”
WELCOME
Welcome to St. James Church! We are excited that you are interested in knowing more about us.
St. James Church is a parish of the Anglican Church in North America and of the Diocese of the Carolinas. We are a Bible-based, liturgical, and evangelical group of believers who are seeking to share the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus Christ in word and deed to a lost and dying world. Our beliefs are shaped by the Protestant Reformation with an appreciation of the liturgical worship practice of the early Church. Anglicans trace their heritage to the English reformation but even earlier than that, as Christianity was planted in England as early as the 2nd century. However, the average Anglican today is a woman in Nairobi, Kenya—not a man from London.
We believe in the three ecumenical creeds: Apostles, Nicene, and Athanasian. We use the ESV translation of the Bible (that does not mean we reject other good translations). We use the 2019 Book of Common Prayer for our liturgical worship, and we sing traditional as well as contemporary hymns (if they are biblically correct and theologically sound).
We are a small congregation seeking to grow with like-minded believers. We are gospel centered, we believe in spiritual formation (discipleship), expository preaching, and the historic Christian faith as passed down by the apostles. If you are seeking a church home, or you are just curious about the Christian faith, we would love to have you come and join us.
Our worship is open to everyone—and holy communion is open to those who have been baptized in the name of the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit. If you have not been baptized, then you are welcome to come forward during the communion service and receive a blessing from Rev. Davis.
We look forward to welcoming you and your family to St. James Church!
Rev. Todd Davis
What is Anglicanism?
Anglicanism is a worldwide body of Christians responding to God’s revelation through Jesus Christ. Anglicanism brings together the authority of the Bible, the historic faith, and the beauty of structured prayer. It is rooted in tradition, yet contemporary in practice. It is united in substance, yet diverse in expression. We are a global family living out our faith in local communities. First and foremost, Anglicans are Christians. Globally, Anglicans form the third largest body of Christians in the world (around 80 million members) behind the Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodox churches. Anglican worship is diverse, and it is best understood by visiting and attending a local congregation. What is common to all is an inheritance of worship that recognizes the supremacy of the Bible and often finds expression through the Prayer Book. To understand what and how Anglicans pray is to understand what they believe. The Prayer Book, described as the Scriptures arranged for worship, provides helpful resources for everything from personal daily devotions to large public gatherings of worship. It includes prayers for every season of life.
